Forget everything you think you know about wine — no grapes grow here, and that’s entirely the point. Schnebly Redland’s Winery offers a unique selection of exotic tropical fruit wines in a paradisiac setting featuring gorgeous waterfalls surrounded by tiki huts. Located an hour south of Miami in the city of Homestead, it is considered the southernmost winery in the United States. Whether you’re road-tripping to the Keys or looking for a genuinely one-of-a-kind day trip from Miami, this is a destination unlike anything else in the Sunshine State.
Instead of grapes, founder and farmer Peter Schnebly crafts his wines from South Florida’s bounty — mangos, lychees, passionfruit, guava, starfruit, coconuts, and even avocados. What started as a creative experiment has grown into a full-fledged destination, now home to the Miami Brewing Co. and The Redlander Restaurant, making Schnebly’s a one-of-a-kind taste of the subtropics.
The Story Behind the Sip
Raised in New York’s Finger Lakes wine country, Peter Schnebly worked in vineyards from age 13 but dreamed of the Florida Keys. He moved to Miami in the 1990s, started a fruit-packing business, and eventually farmed 100 acres of fruit. Frustrated with wasted produce, he teamed up with a boutique winemaker and crafted his first fruit wine in 2004. Schnebly Redland’s Winery opened the following year, and in 2012 he added Miami Brewing Co. The winery quickly blossomed into a celebrated destination, earning the 2008 Best Winery award from the Miami New Times.
The Wines: Tropical, Bold & Completely One-of-a-Kind

Schnebly Redland’s Winery is best known for its lineup of more than 20 tropical fruit wines — a true taste of South Florida in every glass. You can stop by the Grand Tasting Room to sample varieties made from lychee, passionfruit, carambola, guava, avocado, and mango, among others, each with its own bright, distinctive flavor. The sheer range of flavors is something most wine lovers have simply never experienced before.
Wines range from sweet to dry, each blending tropical fruit with familiar wine characteristics. Try the buttery mango wine, crisp avocado AvoVino, or sweet guava, lychee, and starfruit wines. Red wine fans can enjoy the Cat 2 and Cat 3 Hurricane blends, while bubbly lovers will find sparkling lychee or passion fruit varieties equally irresistible.
A curated flight of five tropical wines is served right in the tiki huts, surrounded by lush gardens and soothing fountains, and each tasting includes a branded souvenir glass — a perfect reminder of your adventure. It’s a fun, relaxed format that encourages you to slow down and actually explore each flavor.
Miami Brewing Co. — Beer Lovers, You’re Covered
At Miami Brewing Company, the sister brewery on the property, they combine a passion for beer and locally sourced fruits to create a truly unique line of beers that embody the real taste of Miami. It makes Schnebly’s an ideal outing for mixed groups — wine lovers and craft beer fans alike will find something to love without anyone feeling left out.
The Redlander Restaurant
The Redlander Restaurant is an open-air, farm-to-table spot set beneath a thatched palm canopy on the lawn, specializing in farm-fresh cuisine and local produce with a tropical Miami twist. The menu features dishes like spicy ahi tuna tacos, conch fritters, and a certified Angus beef burger — all pairable with Schnebly’s vast wine selection or Miami Brewing Co.’s craft beers. Brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., making it a wonderful way to kick off a leisurely weekend visit.
Events, Live Music & More
Schnebly keeps the atmosphere lively year-round with a packed calendar of events. On weekends, the winery comes alive with tropical live music, food, and family fun. Country nights bring a local twist — a DJ and line dancing that’s open to all ages. Latin dancing nights are also part of the lineup, letting you discover the joy of rhythm and movement in a setting that feels more resort than rural farmland.
Atmosphere & Décor

A bamboo-lined walkway guides you through an enchanting path, covered by a thatched roof and adorned with lush vegetation — it feels like stepping out of a parking lot and straight into a Polynesian utopia. Delicate waterfalls trickle into a small pond spotted with koi fish, creating a peaceful, transportive ambiance. It’s the kind of setting that makes you reach for your phone to take photos before you’ve even had a sip.
The main building offers 5,000 square feet of space overlooking the tropical courtyard, waterfalls, and surrounding winery. Outside, the Grand Tiki, Waterfall Tiki, and other shaded spaces add up to more than 20,000 square feet — plenty of room for a big celebration or something more low-key. The combination of open-air breezes, swaying palms, and trickling water gives the entire venue an unhurried, resort-like energy that’s hard to find anywhere else in the Miami area.
The grounds are beautifully landscaped with palm trees, tiki huts, lush tropical plants, a koi pond, and a pretty waterfall, and there is a nice walkway around the winery that is also wheelchair friendly. It’s genuinely lovely whether you’re visiting midday or as the sun sets over the Redlands.
Other Considerations

How much does a wine tasting cost? For around $30 per person, you’re able to select five wines to sample, which a staff member will pour for you into a souvenir engraved wine glass that you get to take home as a memento. For a deeper look behind the scenes, guided tours of the winery and neighboring brewery are also available by appointment on weekends.
Are there any event nights with extra charges? Schnebly hosts frequent events like live musical acts, so there may be an extra cover charge during event hours. It’s always a good idea to check the events calendar on their website before you go so you know what to expect.
Is it family- and pet-friendly? The winery is dog-friendly (on a leash) and welcomes children, making it suitable for families. The open, sprawling grounds give kids and pets plenty of space to roam while the adults enjoy the tastings.
Can I host a private event here? Schnebly’s is highly recommended as a wedding or event venue, with visitors consistently complimenting the beautiful setting, great food and wine, and easy-to-work-with staff. The winery is a popular spot for weddings, proposals, and other private events, so be sure to call ahead to confirm it’ll be open to the public on the day you plan to visit.
What about parking and accessibility? There is a private parking lot on site for your convenience. The venue also accommodates large groups — buses are welcome, making it easy to bring everyone together in one spot surrounded by tropical gardens and good wine.
Any heads-up before visiting? Being an open-air venue in South Florida, a few visitors have noted that bugs — particularly flies — can be present, especially during evening dining hours. It’s a minor but worth-knowing quirk of the otherwise beautiful outdoor setting. A gift shop on site also allows you to take home wines and other artisanal products — perfect for picking up a bottle of something you discovered during your tasting.
