Local Story & History
The Mermaid Tale Trail began as a tribute to Weeki Wachee’s underwater performers, with an official unveiling on January 12, 2023. It marked a collaboration among Florida’s Adventure Coast Visitors Bureau, Brooksville Main Street, and the Hernando County Fine Arts Council. Sculptures are made from real molds of mermaid performers—the “Adagio” sculpture included input from Dianne Wyatt McDonald, one of the first Weeki Wachee mermaids!
