This Deerfield Beach Burger Joint Has Been Florida’s Cult-Favorite Patty Shop Since 2008

Chuck, short rib, and brisket walk into a grinder, and what comes out the other side has been keeping a strip of East Hillsboro Boulevard busy for the better part of two decades. That proprietary beef blend is the whole thesis of this Deerfield Beach storefront, a place founded in 2008 by Evan David and Mike Saperstein back when “gourmet burger” still sounded like a contradiction in South Florida.

The operating philosophy here is slow food, fast. Everything is cooked to order in roughly five to eight minutes, which means you get a genuinely fresh patty without surrendering your entire lunch hour. It helped kick off Broward County’s better-burger movement, collected a shelf of local Best Burger honors along the way, and still draws the kind of repeat crowd that knows exactly what they’re ordering before they hit the door.

What to Order

The Cowboy is the crowd favorite and a good gateway into the menu: thick-cut peppered bacon, grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, and cheddar piled onto that signature blend. If you want the house at its most restrained, The Good Ole keeps things to cheese, lettuce, tomato, raw onion, pickle, and their tangy Charm Sauce. Both land in the ten-dollar neighborhood, which is a big part of why people keep coming back.

Then there’s The Big Sloppy, a gloriously excessive tower of two patties, double bacon, double American cheese, a hash brown, and a fried egg. It is exactly as ridiculous as it sounds, and there’s a single-patty Lil Sloppy if you’d like to survive the afternoon. At the other end of the spectrum sits The Emperor, a half-pound American Wagyu patty melt with sautéed mushrooms, aged Gruyère, and truffled aioli on brioche.

The menu goes surprisingly far beyond beef. The Southern Belle brings muenster, spicy BBQ sauce, haystack onions, and creamy slaw; The Greek is a spiced lamb burger with tzatziki and feta; there’s a sushi-grade ahi tuna burger with kimchi slaw; and The Hippie is a scratch-made veggie patty built from mushrooms, beets, beans, and grains. Vegetarians get a real option here, not an afterthought.

Don’t sleep on the Philly cheesesteak, either. Ribeye is shaved daily and paired with homemade white cheese whiz, grilled onions, and garlic aioli. The chicken side of the menu is equally deep, with hand-breaded tenders and sandwiches ranging from the fiery El Diablo to The Cheffy’s candied bacon and blue cheese spread.

Sides deserve their own paragraph. Hand-cut fries, beer-battered onion rings, tater tots, and sweet tots all show up hot and crispy on a good day, though a busy weekend rush can occasionally produce a batch that’s over-fried or a little greasy. The hand-spun milkshakes made with real ice cream are the genuine sleeper hit, thick enough to fight your straw, with a faux cinnamon bun flavor that has developed something of a following.

Atmosphere & Décor

This is an unfussy storefront on a commercial stretch, and it makes no apologies for it. You order at the counter, grab a seat wherever you like, and wait for your number. The whole thing runs on one floor with a small-diner footprint and a handful of outdoor tables.

The interior leans into whimsy rather than polish, with playful murals and anthropomorphic food characters covering the walls. That was intentional: the founders wanted a look you couldn’t pin to any particular decade, blending pop culture, beach-town casualness, and a slightly urban edge. It’s loud, bright, and cheerful, and it fills up fast.

Other Considerations

What will this cost me? Most burgers run between roughly $9 and $12, with the Wagyu Emperor topping out around $14 and the Big Sloppy near $17. Sides land in the $6 range and shakes around $8, so a full meal for one typically settles in the high teens to low twenties. For the ingredient quality, it’s a fair deal.

How’s the parking situation? This is the main friction point. There are only about five spots directly behind the building, plus additional space in the surrounding shopping plaza that fills up during peak hours. Regulars sometimes park at the nearby Publix and walk the short distance over.

When should I go? Weekday lunches and early evenings move quickly. Weekend dinner rushes can stretch the order line considerably, and that’s also when the kitchen is most likely to be slammed. If you want the food at its best, aim off-peak.

Is it good for families? Yes. It’s casual, counter-service, and quick, with hot dogs and simple burgers for less adventurous eaters. Tables can occasionally use a wipe-down during busy stretches, so grab a napkin if needed.

Anything to drink besides shakes? Craft beer is on offer, which pairs nicely with a Cowboy and a basket of onion rings. Their sister taco spot, El Jefe Luchador, sits right across the street if your group can’t agree on dinner.
