In 1988, the McLean County Children’s Discovery Museum was founded, responding to a community need for a dedicated space where children could engage in hands-on learning experiences. After six years of planning, the museum opened its doors on March 27, 1994, in the College Hills Mall. By 1995, the museum had outgrown its original location and relocated to an 8,000-square-foot facility to accommodate growing demand. In 2001, a capital campaign was launched to fund the design and construction of a new 24,000-square-foot museum in partnership with the Town of Normal.
